Harvesting Gigatons of fun at SF Climate Week

Whoa! That was crazy. We’ve just begun to process the enormity that was Gigaton Salon, and SF Climate Week in general.

We’re journaling a bit here, just to really process what went down.

On Thursday April 25th, 2024, Harvest - along with our friends at Impulse, Starshot Capital, and The Abundance Institute - hosted a day of conversations and fun centered around Gigaton-scale solutions to climate change.

A summary? The future’s looking surprisingly bright, and comfy - we just have to  remember to have a good time while we’re creating it.

• Former SF Giant Hunter Pence spent time talking with Harvest CEO Jane Melia and Impulse CEO Sam D'Amico about why everyone - yes, everyone - should care about the duck curve (also, explaining what the hell the duck curve is in the first place).

• Yellow Dot Studios' Staci Roberts-Steele, producer of Netflix’s Don't Look Up, spoke with Starshot’s Zoe Samuel about mass climate communications.

• Intel's head of sustainable AI, Jen Huffstetler, and former head of Energy Policy at Meta, Peter Freed, discussed the past, present and future of massive AI loads on the grid - and how, potentially, load-shifting could ease the strain on the duck curve.

• Isaias Hernandez - aka QueerBrownVegan - hosted talks with Kayalin Akens-Irby from Planet FWD, New Buildings Institute's Jessica Bergman, Impulse’s Deanna Chang, and me (Trent! Hi!)  about building and running gigaton-scale brands.

• Comedians Rasheda Crockett and Megan Sass  smashed the duck curve (piñata), literally.

• We mulled the always-pertinent existential climate tech question: to found or not to found? With Ren’s Eric Jen, Impulse’s Lyn Stoler, Systemiq Capital’s Irena Spazzapan, and OpenInvest’s Josh Levin.

We also managed to pack in, on stage and at our Our Giga Crossing™ experience zone, 

•  a Methane Burp Detector from Cowbell Labs (did you know 1/6th of humans exhale methane?  I didn’t!)
• A (fake) apocalypse bunker sales pitch from Better Climate Store,
• A Happy Hour sponsored by (fake) Oil Company, Cobell Energy.
