When you flip on the lights, you probably don’t worry whether the juice behind the switch is green with zero-carbon energy – or brown as dirt (think coal and gas). But not all states’ electric grids are created equal.
Canary Media recently posted a ranking of US states with the greenest electricity. Most brat? Washington and Vermont, because of hydropower. And South Dakota, with a ton of wind power. These three states have 80%+ carbon-free electricity. You go, y’all!
Why does this matter? If you live in one of these states, switching to all-electric heat from gas is even better for the planet than in other states. Harvest adds an extra kicker because our Smart Thermal Battery™ finds the cleanest time of day to run the heat pump and relies on stored heat, for when the wind stops blowing or hydro turbines stop spinning.
Maybe you thought California or New York would be at the top of the list? Sorry. More like the middle of the road, with around 48% zero-carbon electricity. But wherever you are, Harvest does an especially good job, always cherry-picking the cleanest electricity and maximizing efficiency to cut carbon compared to gas more than any other electric heat pump system.
And what about the Sunshine State? You’d think Florida would be a leader in solar. But you’d be wrong: it’s only 16% carbon-free with solar being a little more than a rounding error.
Even though Brat Summer is over, Harvest can help you find the cleanest juice for your home making your home forever brat, wherever you live.
