It’s hard to prioritize furnace replacement when you’re living through a heat wave. It’s kind of like packing for camping: it’s hard to foresee what you need without going through a checklist, based on the location, the weather, and your planned activities.
This is called anchor bias. We’re anchored to our immediate situation so it’s hard to imagine a different reality. Buying a new HVAC system is similar. When it’s hot outside, heating your home is not exactly top of mind.
But winter is indeed coming. It happens every year, in fact! And if replacing heating and hot water is on your to-do list, the best time to act is yesterday. But today will do.
Why is it best to deal with your home heating now, as opposed to waiting?
- You’ll Save Money (Part 1): Manufacturers change their pricing – usually at the start of the year. So acting now will save money.
- You’ll Save Money (Part 2): Rebates come and go. And some expire at the end of the year. For instance, applications for California Energy Smart Home are due on Nov 1st after which the base rebate drops by $1,000.
- The quiet before the storm. Once the weather gets cold, you’ll compete with other homeowners’ installation jobs.
- Getting multiple bids takes (a lot of) time. You’ll have to schedule with an estimator - or, ideally, three of four) - before reaching a decision. That eats up precious - and maybe cold - time.
- Scheduling the job. Once you sign an agreement, it can be awhile before the installer can come out. Fall is defintely slipping away - if it hasn’t already.
- No-heat emergencies. When someone’s furnace goes out, the contractor will give them priority (as they should). But that could mean delays for your project in the dead of winter.
- You may be living without heat for a few days. It could take 2-3 days to decommission your old furnace and install new equipment. That can get uncomfortable!
- Those monthly heating bills! While not every heat pump can claim to save money on your monthly energy bills, Harvest can – up to 30%. Only Harvest’s Smart Thermal Battery™ can utilize the cheapest, cleanest electricity. Why wait around for cheaper heating bills?
- More storage space for holiday decorations, of course. Some homeowners find a little more storage space when they remove their gas furnaces. What are you waiting for?
- Your planet is calling. Harvest slashes carbon pollution by 90% compared to gas and 40% compared to a standard heat pump system. The sooner we stop burning fossil fuels, the sooner our summers will stop being so darn hot!
Obviously, we have a little bias for our own heat pump + thermal battery solution. But no matter what electrification solution you go with, you’re waaaaay better off if you get started today!
