Look, I’m a competitive person. PhD, mom of three, CEO…and don’t get me started on my Orange Theory addiction. it’s not like I chose to be like this - I was just, y’know, born this way.
So you can imagine that it really pains me to have lost The Earthshot Prize. Earthshot is the Clios of climate. The Palm D’Or for the planet. The Formula 1 of Fixing the Future. And I just got my rejection letter (a very nice rejection letter, full of great feedback…but a rejection letter nonetheless).
Why am I telling you this now? Because all too often, we only share the highest highs, without expressing gratitude for the lows - especially the informative ones.
It’s doubly-painful to lose the Earthshot Prize, after having come so close. I was invited to the first-ever Earthshot Innovation Camp a few months ago. I pitched Mike Bloomberg. Met founders as hellbent on fixing our planet as I am. Sat in the same room as Prince William.
There are only 15 Earthshot winners, in a pool of around 2400 nominees. Yes, I did that math, and that means I wasn’t officially chosen as being in the top-two-thirds-of-a-percent in this particular category. Harumph.
The winners haven’t been chosen yet, and so I’m sending my best wishes to all the amazingly talented and selfless innovators out there who’re still in the running as finalists. But, losers, know this: you’re in great, world-changing company.
At Harvest we’ll never take our eyes off the prize: helping leave a more-amazing world to the next generation than the one we inherited.
See you at the finish line.
