Hi everyone. I’ve just gotten home from London - no, we haven’t opened up shop in my homeland quite yet, but I am chuffed to give you a report on the first-ever Innovation Camp at London Climate Action Week.
I was invited by Prince William’s Earthshot Prize and Bloomberg Philanthropies to represent Harvest in London. Inspired by President John F. Kennedy’s “Moonshot” challenge in 1962 to land a man on the moon within a decade, The Earthshot Prize was launched by Prince William in 2020. Of course, I jumped at the chance to dive into a community so poised to help the world get on track for a livable future.
On Tuesday I had the pleasure of discussing Harvest’s smart thermal battery with Mr Bloomberg himself, and while he declined to purchase a system on the spot, he was quite jazzed about Harvest’s potential to make sustainable comfort accessible to everyone.
Earthshot’s CEO, Hannah Jones, was a constant presence at Camp. She provided an undercurrent of optimism for all of the Prize nominees. Her balance of facts, empathy, and emotion drive Prince William’s vision “to search for and scale the most innovative solutions to the world’s greatest environmental challenges.” It was great to see such a diverse pool of leaders - including a lot of really incredible women.
And the nominees! So inspiring, from fellow heating decarbonizers, to mushroom-leather producers, watershed-restoration pioneers, and previous Earthshot award winners, a veritable whirlwind of networking, skillsharing, and idea-honing, rounded out by a networking session with Bill Gates’ Breakthrough Energy community.
The (vegan) catering was excellent, BTW. Yet another reason to become an Earthshot nominee
While Harvest hasn’t quite won an Earthshot prize, experience at Innovation Camp is an exciting glimpse into the future of climate technology of all stripes. There’s no longer any excuses on the road to decarbonization. We can do this, and I’m so happy to be a part of the community of people - including all the current and future Harvesters out there - who are joining hands to build a better future.
Thanks for coming along for the ride. Here’s to Earthshots!
