California has big heat pump goals: 6 million units by 2030. But according to the state’s new climate blueprint, it’s not on track to get there. Even with existing incentives, California is expected to fall short by 2 million units. The problem isn’t demand—heat pumps are already outselling gas furnaces nationwide. The real issues are cost, awareness, and a market that isn’t quite making heat pumps the obvious choice for homeowners.
That’s where smarter solutions come in. At Harvest, we know heat pumps are the future of home heating and cooling, but they work best when paired with technology that helps them run efficiently. Our battery stores energy when it’s cheapest and delivers heating and cooling exactly when it’s needed. That means lower bills, fewer emissions, and a comfortable home year-round.
Right now, too many homeowners see heat pumps as expensive to install and complicated to operate. The truth is, when they’re operated smartly, they’re better for the environment and on bills. The state’s plan focuses on better incentives, installer training, and consumer education, which are all important steps. However, without smarter energy management, some Californians could still see high electricity costs that make switching feel like a gamble.
California needs to deploy 23 million heat pumps by 2045 to hit its climate goals. That won’t happen unless we consistently make them the easiest, most affordable choice for every homeowner. At Harvest, we’re making that a reality by ensuring heat pumps don’t have any compromises against gas - even on energy bills..
